Liverpool: The 30 year wait

Commissioned by BBC2 / BBC Sport, I directed - mostly during lockdown- a 90 minute documentary on the story of why Liverpool took 30 years to win a title - and why it meant so much.

The film aired on BBC2 in the prestigious 9pm Sunday doc slot, and was voiced by Jason Issacs. The film received widespread acclaim, and trended on twitter for 3 days - and was one of the most popular programmes on BBC IPlayer for some time after broadcast.  Featuring contributions from many major figures in Liverpool's history - past and present - the film looks at wider issues far wider than football.

Despite the onerous restrictions brought on by COVID, this film was still shot in quality all across the world, and edited remotely by the excellent Dom Robson-Smith.
